Program FAQs

  • Alberta students who are currently in Grades 9-11 may register for FACES sessions. Ideally, 1st Year (FACES Challenge) students would be in Grade 9 or 10 during spring registration. Students who have attended a 1st Year (FACES Challenge) session already may register for a 2nd Year (FACES Journey) session. Finally, students who have completed 1st and 2nd Year may register for a 3rd Year (FACES Service) session. If you heard of FACES later in your high school journey but would still like to attend, please contact us via info@faceseducation.com to discuss possibilities.

  • The FACES program is a locally developed curriculum approved by Alberta Education and runs in partnership with Livingstone Range School Division. Successful FACES students can earn up to 10 high school credits per year. The credits are earned during their participation in both a Personal Adventure (before and after camp) and Wilderness Adventure (at camp). They will be required to complete some independent projects and presentations within their small groups.

  • Here at FACES we try to make the program as accessible as possible. The cost is $250 for all students. If that is not possible please contact us at info@faceseducation.com.

Session FAQs

  • Devices are not permitted while participating at FACES. This provides a wonderful opportunity for students to disconnect from social media and to connect with nature, others and themselves. You can follow our Facebook and Instagram for updates and pictures while your child is participating in a FACES session. In case of an emergency, please contact your child’s session lead.

  • Students are assigned tent groups based on emotional and physical safety and to facilitate meaningful connection. Tenting groups are closely supervised to encourage appropriate and safe behaviour.

  • Our best prevention against bear encounters is noise created by 40 teenagers having fun. Upon arrival at FACES students will be briefed on safety protocols and the importance of travelling in groups larger than 3. There is no tolerance for food or “smellies” in tents at any point. Bear safe storage will be provided and leaders are equipped with bear spray.
